One more season of Modern Family is over. Some good episodes, some pretty bad. Example of the bad is the season finale. If that is what they have to make the audience wait for the next season, the series is condemned. If I will continue watching it, probably yes. Why? Because I know it is not restricted to the season finale, and there are some good episodes. Also, because I am stunned how much Ariel Winter has grown in the last years, and how cute geek her character is. Just sad her role in the season is rarely central.
Modern Family continues, and like The Big Bang Theory, the story is mostly the same from the beginning. Two gays with relationship problems, and self-doubt, a lazy mom and the three kids, and the old guy with the cute woman. From time to time an episode is better than the others, making a laugh, but most of the time it just guarantees a 20 minutes of OK time. Example of this warm evolution is the season finale, that was just like any other episode from the series. I know this series is mostly based on each individual episode, than in a continuous story, but nevertheless, it would be quite easy to make some suspense on the “umbrella story”.
Although I finished this season some weeks ago, I did not notice there were no more episodes. The fact of every episode having a different story, with minimal umbrella story (the one that glues episodes together), and the lack of a season finale are the reasons for missing it.
In any case, Modern Family continues as good as it was. I still think that Alex Dumphy deserves an episode meeting Sheldon at Caltech (even being two different producers, why not?) and I think Manny, like above, is deserving a chance with a girl. Not necessarily a hot blonde, but I feel for him. Probably because I think I deserve this chance too…
Not much to say about the movie. A romantic comedy, and no, the romance was not between Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway. It is a fund movie to watch. a few slow scenes, but mostly enjoyable to watch.
Also was interesting to see Adam DeVine out of Modern Family, and Andrew Rannells out of Girls. And those who know me, know that the fact of having Anne Hathaway around made me stick. Yes, she is very cute.
Yeah, right. What other could I post here from the last Modern Family season? It is not every day we get Sofia Vergara in the pool. Other than that, the series continues with some fun episodes and some other more boring. Nothing really new. The “big story” (spoilers ahead) is quite small and slow. Alex gets to college (or out of college? well… to Caltech. I just hope she meets The Big Bang Theory next season). Haley likes Andy. And not much more.
And the fifth season of Modern Family finished. And I should tell that the episodes that I liked most are the last ones. Not really the last (spoilers: on the wedding) but some previous. Also, I love how Lily can interfere and comment her dads. After a talk with a friend I knew most people dislike her character. I must say I like it a lot.
Of course, this is not a movie, so I can’t talk much on the story… as they are 25 stories, the big view, and each one of the 24 episodes. Some are better than other, of course, but in the overall, this series is fun to watch.
Just in time for Season 5 that started a couple days ago. This season did not bring anything really new. I was expecting the Gloria being pregnant would make the series go in some other direction, but it did not happen. In fact, it were few the episodes related to that fact. Nevertheless, there are some good jokes, and it seems the stupid jokes that were very usual in the first seasons are mostly lost. Expecting the next season.
One more season and I continue seeing myself in Manuel Delgado, namely on his relation with girls. Anyway, this season is very similar to the previous ones in terms of story and jokes. No big differences on the stories’ lines. Now that we have Gloria Delgado pregnant things might change.
Modern Family second season is a little better than the first season, but not much different. What I miss in this series is continuity. Not requesting a complex story that continues every episode, like Smash, or Game of Thrones, but a global story that ties episodes together (like Castle, Nikita or the good old House). In this season there are some episodes with a sequence (regarding Manny’s dog), some episodes that refer to previous ones (like Valentines day, or the last from the season, that visits a set of previous episodes).
But, the thing I like most is Glória (Sofia Vergara) and the sound similarities: Saxophone vs Sexy Phone, Baby Cheeses vs Baby Jesus. Just great.
Sofia Vergara and Julie Bowen are two good MILF reasons to watch this series. I confess I started watching it because a friend said it is very good. In fact, I can’t say it is that good (at least for first season). Somehow, I feel some actors to act a little strange. Also, the mockumentary format is not a thing I appreciate.
Nevertheless, there are funny episodes, and good jokes. I think the character I like most is Manny Delgado. Not only because he has my name (swapped), but also because he has the same problem as I have with girls. How I understand you, Manny…
