The Expendables 3 (2014)

Two Mummies: Arnold Schwarzenegger and Harrison Ford
Two Mummies: Arnold Schwarzenegger and Harrison Ford

Not much to say about the movie. Half the cast are mummies, and I am not sure how they can still move. The new expendables (see the movie for the definition of new) aren’t bad ass as other expendables on previous movies. Jason Statham is mostly hidden. Mel Gibson as some class. Harrison Ford has some nice shots, too. Other than that, see the movie for the usual explosions, shots and fights. Other than that, a couple of humorous quotes. Ah… and Antonio Banderas is just crazy on this movie. At some point it gets really boring to listen to. And yeah, I know it is deliberate. Voted 6 in 10.

To finish, a small quote I liked:

Barney Ross: Better get out of that seat and move to the back, Christmas is coming.
Galgo: But it’s only June…

Lucy (2014)

Scarlett Johansson as Lucy
Scarlett Johansson as Lucy

In case you need a motivation to watch this movie, probably the picture above is enough. And I will not comment more on that in this post… well, that will be difficult…

Now, on the movie, the plot is interesting enough. Flaws? Probably lots of them. I did not really though on that while watching. If you know you are watching a Sci-Fi movie, let it go, and trust it. Do not try to rationalize. Of course, some inconsistencies can make a movie worst. But although some can exist on Lucy, I do not think they ruin anyhow the movie.

Also, the “National Geographic”-like interrupts are, somehow, interesting, although annoying on specific parts. Nevertheless, an 8/10@IMDB. Scalett’s fault too, right.

Defendor (2009)

Defendor
Defendor

A suggestion by a friend. I confess I was not expecting this. And if you did not watch this movie, you should stop here and find it somewhere. After reading the rest of the post the movie will not have all the feeling it should.

More than an action movie or a comedy (it is both of them), this is a drama. So, do not expect the usual superhero approach. Also, do not expect it to be a standard Hollywood movie. You know, at the end the main character will be dead. So, no, not that usual in Hollywood. And in fact, it isn’t, as it seems to be produced in Canada.

I will not tell the story, so probably the rest of the post will not make any sense if you did not watch it. But anyway… the main message is that any of us can stand to make a difference. Unfortunately, not all can do it like the main characters, and that is good, or a lot of us would be dead already. But in any case, each of us is a super hero, even if you do not wear a cape (also, capes are for flying).

Other than that, loved the puns with “DefenDOG” and “DefenDOOR”. I am just sad they did not keep it up to the limit. It would have been fun.

Furious Seven (2015)

And the seventh is out there, and it seems eighth is on its way. What can I say? More of the same. Good to watch if you are in the mood, if you like speed, girls and punches. A little difficult for me to see Jason Statham as the bad guy. Other than that, cool. And, of course, Nathalie Emmanuel is very, very cute.

No need to comment on the hacking stuff, and mistakes or impossible stuff. You do not see a movie for that. Also, of course, lots of publicity. Other than the cars, at least Dell and Monster. Whatever.

Finally, a good homage to Paul Walker. I confess I got sentimental.

Transporter: The Series (Season 2)

Violante Placido as Caterina Boldieu
Violante Placido as Caterina Boldieu

I liked this series a lot. As I included in the season I review, it included lots of action (martial arts-like), cars and car stunts, and pretty girls with few clothes. For this season, you can see some action, a few car stunts and no girls without clothes. The prettier girl around is, probably, Violante Placido, as Caterina Boldieu, but always in decent clothes.

They say a new season will be prepared. I am hoping at least the car stunts get back, because this is getting more and more distant from the Transporter character, and more and more near the 007 franchise.

Also, I am not yet sure why all car makes are removed from the cars. As you can see bellow, there is a Renault truck without its logo. No idea why the logo was removed. I think anybody will see that is a Renault. The same happens with all the Ford, Nissan, Kia, Skoda and other car makes that appear in the series. I think the only two makes I saw were Audi, the one that probably sponsors the show, because it is the transporter’s car, and a Mazda, that probably slipped from the censure, as it appears by, let’s say, accident, at it is just a parked car that get some focus.

Cube Zero (2004)

Cube Zero
Cube Zero

Yeah, I liked the first two (Cube and Hypercube) and noticed recently that a Cube Zero was available since 2004. So, I decided to watch it. Well, given it mentions zero, this should, probably, be considered the first on the three movies (you know, that stuff like Star Wars, making time go back…).

I like this movie not because of the concept, or jokes, but because I like to wonder what traps will be in the next room. In fact I think this concept would be great in a computer game. Anybody around willing to write a script for it? Maybe I can find some friends to develop it.

The Flash (2014) S01E01

Danielle Panabaker @ The Flash
Danielle Panabaker @ The Flash

If it wasn’t for The Flash, a character I like, Danielle Panabaker would be a good reason to watch this series. Anyway, The Flash doesn’t have the charisma of Quicksilver in the latest X-Man movie, but maybe he can gain it. That quietude is of Quicksilver is just great. In this series, The Flash seems like some kind of idiot, but maybe it will change. So, for now, giving a chance to this series.

X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)

Evan Peters as Quicksilver
Evan Peters as Quicksilver

I read some time ago a paper (or was it a presentation) stating that there are a dozen of stories, that are changed and adapted, generating all the movies we have seen since the story of the world. I am not that drastic, but it seems that at least there was some kind of information sharing between the writers of this movie and the writers of Star Trek, into the Darkness. Why? Same base… somehow it seemed that the current status of the X-men World story wasn’t flexible enough, so lets get back into time, and change the story, so that now we can rewrite it, making some characters that were dead alive again. For Star Trek it was similar, the actors were idolized, or almost, and therefore, they got back in time to somehow introduce the new actors.

Not that I am against the idea. If you read an older post about the Star Trek movie I really gave my congratulations to the writers for that idea. Now I am not sure if I should congratulate again, as it seems the idea is not new.

Anyway, the movie is good. The story acceptable. Lots of action, fun, and a lot of different mutants around (I like when there are a lot of them, not just one or two). But what I liked the most? The scene I captured above, with Quicksilver. Not just I like the character, but Evan Peters is great. Please, please, please, make him come back in future movies.

A Million Ways to Die in the West (2014)

A Million Ways to Die in the West

The first western I was able to see and like. True. Like specially the color. Great. I am not sure, but I think a lot is CGI. Nevertheless, great imaging. Also, like the jokes. Good the jokes about things too modern. Good the jokes about the different ways to die. And yeah, it is always good to know all the ways there are to die/kill. The story is not brilliant or new, but is good enough. And when you laugh from time to time, it is great. I liked it.

Need for Speed (2014)

Need for Speed
Need for Speed

I am a Fast and Furious fan, and a somewhat retired Need for Speed player. I had fear regarding this movie, trying to, at first, mimic the game, and at last, compete with Fast and Furious. I must admit I was wrong. The movie is very enjoyable and somewhat unpredictable in some situations. At some extend it is the usual Hollywood movie, but in some other situations, it is not. I do not want to give spoilers, as this is a quite recent movie, but I must say that the Need for Speed (game) imitation is only at the end, and not that bad.

If you like cars, velocity and dangerous stunts, then this movie is for you. There are a couple comedy situations (as the one above) and a little drama too. So, a kind of complete movie.

If there is a sequel, I will be watching it. Voted 8 in 10 at IMDB.
