Well, if I started using Google Noteook a few days ago, it was also fast to send it to /dev/null. It is not bad, but it is too much Mouse Oriented. I do not like to have to use the mouse to change font type, make itemizes, etc. In the other hand, it has too much JavaScript.
So the solution was to install a Wiki: dokuwiki. It is not Perl based, unfortunately. Twiki is a cannon, and my problem is just a fly. Kwiki is nice, but Ingy can't resist to incorporate implementation changes. Dokuwiki is PHP and small, easy to use, fast and functional.
But probably I'll change in the next few days, again!

Yes, I am sad. Leopard is out, and no news about new laptops. Also, current laptop specifications still mention Tiger, and not Leopard. I've tried the US Apple Store, and macbook pro still come with Tiger.
So, should I buy a MacBook Pro 15"?
I think that when I buy it, Apple will make a smaller one available...

I am yet more google-dependent. My last post said I was using just Gmail and Google Notebook. This week I started using Google Calendar. I use Mac OS, so people might ask why I do not use iCal. Well, I tried before and it didn't work because I use Mac OS on my laptop, and linux on my work desktop. Although there is an iCal version for linux, I do not think they are fully compatible, and if they were, I would need some kind of CVS to maintain the calendar file updated between machines. So, for now, I am testing Google Calendar. Oh, and because I had a tab for Gmail, one for Google Notebook and another to Google Calendar, I started using iGoogle as well.

Well, Leopard should be out in a week or so, and I want to buy a new laptop. This one, my PowerBook G4 12" is not that old. About two years. The problem is that it is slow. In fact, when I bought it, it was already slow. Damn PowerPC processors.
Now, there is another reason why I need a new laptop: I need to teach students to use some applications that work just on Windows machines. As I want to buy a Mac, I am waiting for the Mac OS X Leopard release (about a week, accordingly with Apple).
Now the question is: will I buy a MacBook Pro 15" or will Apple release a more interesting machine? MacBook Pro 13" anyone?

Google has a big set of good web services, and that annoys me a little. They have our searches, our e-mail, our appointments and now all our documents. And that might be a bad thing. Nevertheless, I use some of these services. I use Google search, Google e-mail and now Google Notebook. It is not one of the better applications from Google but it is handy. Normally I work at home in my laptop, and at the University in my desktop server. Knowing what I need to do and taking notes across computers is not that easy. One of my first options was a file in SVN, but it was easy to forget to check-in before going home, or before going work. With Google Notebook I can take notes, and it saves my changes automatically. I think I will use them for some time...
Well, I have a PowerBook G4 12" and I need to replace it. It is a beautiful machine, but it is beautifully slow. I am waiting for Leopard to upgrade my machine. Accordingly with Apple website that will take about 8 days, 22 hours and 35 minutes, from the time I am writing this. But my options for the upgrade are... just one: the MacBook Pro 15". Can anybody ask Steve Jobs for a MacBook Pro 13"? And please, make it available in 10 days or so.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Well, if you know me, you know I do not have any kind of aptness for design. But it seems that there is people with less skills than myself, and thus, they ask me to do some design. Although I have a mac, and there is great commercial design software like Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator for Mac, I use Gimp and Inkscape because I do not have money for more.
This last time when the organizers of the XATA Conference asked me for a poster, I first searched (googled, in fact) for a monument from the city where the event will be organized (Évora), gimped it a little, and created a vectorial shadow of it. The final poster is not brilliant, but it is one of the best image manipulations I did so far.

I am not sure if the publicity about Coca-Cola Zero is the same across countries. In Portugal it is something like: It tastes the same. I imagine that the idea is to say that it has no calories but it has a similar flavor to the standard Coca-Cola. In fact, I think it is much more similar to the standard one than Coca-Cola Diet. But to say it tastes the same is not correct. Mostly because the standard Coca-Cola does not tastes the same. It all depends if you open a glass bottle, a PET bottle (50 cl and 1.5L,2L bottles have a different flavor) or a can, you will taste completely different.
My choice is the 25cl glass bottle or the 50cl PET bottle.

This night, for the first time, I woke up remembering something I had read during a dream. As this never had happened before, I imagine that it is because it is important.
The message said something like:
PHP programmers should not move their heads when they are being shot!

Do you want to annoy all your male friends that use windows? Do you? OK. Send them an email with an image in attach named 'aux.jpg', and tell in your subject something like, "The best pornographic photo yet". Then, just wait for them to complain. With some effort they will be able to do it, but at first they will have some problems.
Why?
Because 'aux' is a reserved word for MS-DOS.
You do not trust me? Try to create a folder in your desktop named 'aux'.
I told you!

For a long time that I wanted to see this movie. I saw Madagascar, and this one came out almost at the same time. Thus, I didn't went to see it. Also, I do now know why, I was expecting Madagascar to be better than this one. But I think I was wrong. I do not remember very well Madagascar, but I think the animation for this one is quite better. Specially, the small lion is very cute, and very well animated. The story, that one is quite similar. I will not talk about it at all. The good thing is, of course, that there are a lot of jokes. Oh, but the penguins from Madagascar were cooler.
Also, there are some stupid things. Like chameleons! We all know they can change color, but they can't be invisible. But the joke about the Leon instinct is quite cool.

Yesterday I started playing with MOO C code again. I never programmed much on it, unfortunately. The time is not much, but it is quite fun. People like to talk using ICQ, MSN or GTalk. But a MUD/MOO (in this caso MOOsaico) is completely different. You can talk, you can create a virtual world (just with ASCII, forcing you to write descriptions instead of using just images), create objects, create actions, virtual animals, virtual buses... it is a lot of fun.
Just because I didn't blog about them yet, some news from the last times:
- I am now a teacher at the Computer Science Department of the Universidade do Minho, in Braga, Portugal;
- Unfortunately I need to teach them to use tools in Windows, as Microsoft Word or Excel.
- The good thing is that that might be a good excuse to buy a new Mac laptop...
- I am in the process of finishing my PhD, or at least I hope so. I hope that in three or four months I will have the thesis ready for evaluation.
- There are some new blogs from some Portuguese friends: Sarita started blogging but does not give news for some time, Magda Joana is posting about her life and some interesting posts about her brother that is now at the University.
Next month, the Portuguese Association for Perl Programmers (in Portuguese, Associação Portuguesa de Programadores Perl) will organize two days of training in Perl Catalyst Framework. It will be held on November 2 and 3, in Computer Science Department of Universidade do Minho, in Braga, Portugal.
