House of Flying DaggersHouse of Flying Daggers is a Chinese movie, full or martial arts, big jumps, nice karate, nice weapon management. The story is quite strange and during the movie I got lost a lot of times. I am not sure if this was the director idea, but it is quite well done. Unfortunately, nobody can be perfect and there are a few points that are not coherent in the story if we think about what happened before. The story differentiates about true love and just possession. Thus, while being cataloged as an action and adventure movie, I would prefer to call it in the first place a romantic and drama movie. Having such extremes (action and drama) makes that some non-action moments seem too long. But the director, instead of cutting a little on these moments extended them. A nice movie.

barnyard posterBarnyard is a cool movie. Well, if you read any of my previous movie reviews you should be waiting to know if this movie has any girls. Yes, it has. Lot of cows, chickens and other female animal.

Now, for the real comments, the movie is fun, the movie animation is very well done, the story is quite simple but good for children. Ok, it is a family movie. I think from 5 years old to 95 years old, anybody with an open mind will laugh a lot with Barnyard animals.

One of my favorite quotes on this movie is when the Pizza Delivery Guy shouts to his friend:: Dude, I got a ARM!

A friend sent me a horoscope entry for my sign (piscis) that describe me so well, that I decided to post it here...

One of the difficulties with your sensitive nature is that you avoid making hard decisions at times, especially if you feel this is going to undermine someone else. With close friends and family members you’ll do anything to help them but don’t forget you must also help yourself. Some Pisces are so habituated to this attitude that they themselves end up becoming the sacrificial lamb in their relationships. You should try to recognise when you’re being used as no one gains from this. Balancing your needs and those of others is a particularly important lesson for you.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix PosterThis is the problem of knowing a childish girl... we have to go with her see some strange movies. Ok, I am exaggerating, as I would not go if I really didn't want to. Harry Potter... what can I say about this movie? They are growing fast, and that I do not know if is good or bad, as I just read the first two books. But they are doing a good job as actors. In fact, from all the Harry Potter movies I saw (three or four), the character I like most is Hermione Granger. She is a nice girl, and with some nice face expressions. Regarding the story, is quite the usual. No big surprises. But, as expected, special effects get better from time to time, and there are a few nice ones.

Now, one opinion that is not mine. Today morning found a secretary of the department where I am doing my PhD that we saw in the cinema with her little girl. She asked me: Did you like the movie? I've asked my girl: "and this ends like this?"

BeerFest PosterBeerFest is that kind of movie you do not know if you will like ot not just by the name/description/plot line. If you search for the plot summary on IMDB you will read: Two brothers travel to Germany for Oktoberfest, only to stumble upon secret, centuries-old competition described as a "Fight Club" with beer games. . Brilliant, huh? Now you know they will fight for beer. Luckily you have also a genre: Comedy. Not bad at all. At least I like comedies. But the best part to see if you would like the movie, is to look into the photo gallery. Ok, did you understood why I liked this movie? No, not because the actors have stupid faces (ok, that too), but yes, there are girls, nice girls. And yes, there are some topless scenes.

Ok, now the truth... the movie is funny, with some strange scenes. I do not like beer, and I think any kind of contest with food is bad. But they have a comic statement in the beginning of the movie. It reads something like: Do not try to this this much. There are professionals. Oh yeah!

And to commemorate the 500th post on this blog full of inutilities, one more inutile post!

We all know that progress bars do not work as they should: they grow in an inconstant manner, stop during long time to speed again later. Also, times are not clear, as the expected time raises and lowers from time to time. But this time I found a good one: while the progress bar was quite stable when being filled, the time was also stable, growing more and more. When the process ended, the remaining time was about 1 200 hours. Not bad!

CD CoverTogether with the other Queen CD, I bought this one as well. Unfortunately it is not as good as the previous. In fact, it has a lot of potential, but it was not used properly. Ok, the CD is not about Queen music played by an orchestra, is more like a Symphonic Poem (or a symphony) inspired in Queen music and, of course, played bu an orchestra. If in two or three parts (from six) I can resemble some little motifs from Queen, in the other I can't, at all. Also, it is a bad CD to listen in the car, as there is a lot of volume variations, from pianissimo to fortissimo, and that makes it hard to follow the music.

Conclusion: we can't have luck every time with our shoppings...

Today is Friday, 13th. Usually this is considered as a bad luck day. So far, so good. But what I was thinking when started posting this, was about Friday 13th viruses. I remember in the old times when I used MS-DOS, when people said not to connect computers on these days. Now people forget about it, as anti-virus are installed everywhere. But my question is another one: is the Friday 13th virus still around, or is it a dead one?

Transformers posterYesterday night it was Harry Potter night. Yes, the cinema had two rooms with Harry Potter. It was the first day the movie was in that city. But we didn't went to see Harry Potter. We gone to see Transformers, the movie. I am a fan from the first Transformers Series. Unfortunately it became worst from time to time, so I was expecting a really bad movie. Fortunately, the movie is not that bad. Ok, it is not coherent with the first series. Although Optimus Prime is still a truck (without the trailer, unfortunately), Megatron is not the usual gun, instead a kind of plane. Also, Bumblebee is not a Beattle, unfortunately. But the movie is quite interesting, with some funny jokes about Google and Ebay, and some nice boobie..erm, girls.

CD CoverProbably you already know, but I am a Queen addict. I love to hear classic music and strange enough, I love to hear Queen as well. This conjunction makes that every time I see a CD with Queen music played by an orchestra, I buy it. It happened again. I bought this CD at ebay and I am just loving it. The CD includes little information about what you are listen: just that it is the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, but does not mentions who is the conductor or the arranger. And regarding these one I would like to ask for claps. The arrangement is quite fabulous and the energy in the music is great.

Live Earth LogoProbably you heard of Live Earth, the Word-Wide Concert to remember people of pollution and how earth is dying. The motive is important, the mean was bad. At least in Portugal, for about two months before the concert, a daily program in the TV remembered how not to waste energy and water. All this, to end up in a concert during 24 hours, wasting Watts and more Watts of energy in lights and sound. Not to talk about other materials wasted like paper. This shows the hypocrisy of all this movement.

Well, I was planning to post this right in the day Slackware 12.0 was out, but the truth is that Pat took a lot of time to put the notice in the website, and I didn't want to post the news before him. Then, I forgot to post them.

Slackware is one of the oldest and more stable linux distributions. It is mainly maintained by Patrick Volkerding for more than ten years. Although I changed about an year ago to Arch Linux (because Slackware was still on kernel 2.4 and apache 1.x) I would chose again Slackware if I would leave Arch.

From the Slackware 12.0 release notice:

That's right, the first 2.6(.21.5) based Slackware release is ready for download! We think you'll enjoy the latest kernel, KDE 3.5.7, XFce 4.4.1, HAL automounting for desktop users, an updated toolchain, and many other enhancements. T

The Fast and The Furious PosterFor a long time I wanted to watch this movie. since I saw Tokyo Drift. Finally got an opoortunity to loan it. While I liked a little more Tokyo Drift (drifting is much cooler than getting fast on move), this is a good movie. Vin Diesel is perfect for the role he is doing, and the two girls (Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster) make the movie yet more enjoyable. In the other hand, Paul Walker does not fit very well on his role. But, hey, we can't ask much from a cop, can we?

More about the movie... cars, motorcycles, speed and girls. Most of the factors that can influence positively a man. And no, not just that two girls. A lot of girls in bikini. Really enjoyable...
