August 2006 Archives
So, in the next few days expect posts about Perl and Birmingham. With luck (or not) you might get also posts about trip details.
Tomorrow I'll be leaving vacations and next week (Tuesday), I'll be leaving Portugal to Birmingham, to YAPC::EU::2006. I'll be doing a talk about parsers there (a 40 minutes talk, I really do not know what to say in so much time) and two lightning talks (5 minutes talks). From these two, one will be really funny, I hope. If people like it, I'll make it available for download for you folks.
Now, I just need to buy a new pack for my laptop. My usual backpack is now not considered a handbag when traveling from and to United Kingdom. And other restrictions apply, like, no liquids on the hand bag. Luckily enough, my laptop is not water refrigerated...
Just to say I am alive. And yes, vacations are going well, thanks.
Ok, it could be better, but it is good enough. On the place where I am for vacations, Portugal Telecom installed an access point for wireless access!
It could be better if it was the Hotel to install it, and give free access for the clients, but it is good enough because I am a Portugal Telecom client for my home ADSL, and they give me free access to the Internet (well, with some traffic limitations, but not that bad!).

Just to let you all know that I'll be out for vacations during about 15 days. So, probably, no posts will appear during this period.

Accordingly with a friend this movie is very bad in relation to the serie. In fact, I do not know. I think I never saw it (the serie).
Given that the author (again, accordingly with my friend) is the same of the serie, I would say that he have a time limit... the story is good for 30 minutes of movie and not the 134. The truth is that the movie is slow... very slow... few action parts.
Ok, now for the good parts: a few girls, some (bad) sex scenes, a nice ferrari, some nice boats. More interesting parts, nice gun shots, some good action. And a few laughs... not much, I confess.
Saw this movie and what can I tell? Well, I didn't understand it. It was so frustrating... complicated story, too much repetitions... few girls. Ok, it has some interesting special efects regarding people dying with shots in their neck and similar, but a very strange movie. Also, let me tell Jason Statham to continue with the Transport serie, and forget these stupid movies.
Watch it if you do not have nothing more interesting to do. Let me tell you that to vegetate navigating the Internet is more interesting...
Today went to my work place (Computer Science Department at Minho's University) and my work machine (also server for a lot of different sites) was doing a lot of noise. It was the CPU cooler. Turned off the PC, turned it on five minutes later and it did a lot less noise. The problem is that I'll be going to vacancies in a week, and I do not want to let the computer die when I am not around. So, I ordered a new cooler. Asked a friend for advice, this Zalman was the choice. It was installed and... ssshhh... I can't hear it!!
This OSCAR winner movie is in fact a really interesting movie. And yes, I think the problem with racism among different races is worst at the moment than the probable racism for gays as the other probable OSCAR winner tried to show.
The movie is great. It is not just a Crime and Drama movie, but also a Comic one. With a little more effort you might classify it as Thriller as well. Regarding actors, unfortunately Sandra didn't appear more often. But, hey, no movie is perfect.
Finally, and not talking again about the details of the movie, let me talk about racism again. Just to say that as the movie shows, racism does not exist only between main skin colors (black and white), but also culture and, unfortunately, social class.

APPP (Associação Portuguesa de Programadores Perl) is finally legal (we hope) and with an empty website. Click the onion to see it.
Also, we have a logo which needs a little of work. But the idea is nice. We are using the The Perl Foundation onion with Portuguese colors.
Hope to have more news real soon.
Today finished the reading of Farmer Gilles of Ham, one of the four tales on this small book by J.R.R.Tolkien. This tale took me a long time to read, mainly because it uses some unusual English words and constructions. The story, itself, is interesting. It all happens in a world where dragons, dogs, people and giants, they all speak the same language. Thus, you can imagine some interesting conversations taking place. I will not detail more the story, so you can read it.
